A blissful sailing between Thai and Malaysian ports – includes flights, all meals, watersports gear and more

You’ve heard about cruises between the Caribbean and the Greek islands – how about one among the islands of southeast Asia? Over eight days, sail around Thailand and Malaysia, on a stately ship full of lovely touches. Aboard the stunning Star Clipper, you’ll have access to a piano bar, the Tropical Bar and an immaculately maintained stateroom, but the real highlight of your journey will be the time you spend off the vessel – experiencing the nature and culture of a real-life heaven on earth.

Begin in Phuket, where landscapes of rubber plantations and coconut groves give way to sandy beaches and the brilliant Andaman Sea. From here, your destinations will vary, depending on whether you’re departing from the island’s north or south, but you can’t go wrong with either itinerary. Proceed to the Surin Islands or to those of the Butang Group, or maybe to the Similan Islands, plus Koh Rok Nok, Malaysia’s Langkawi or Penang and more. And either way, disembark the ship back in Phuket – if you’re not literally staggering from the sheer amount of white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and lush forests you’ve packed into seven incredible nights.

Ship

With its fin-de-siècle silhouette, the five-masted Star Clipper is unlike any ordinary cruise ship. Inspired by the legendary Preussen, a first-of-its-kind German windjammer christened in 1902, this ship adopts the same eye-catching aesthetic – with the addition of up-to-date amenities, of course – for a truly unique sailing experience.

Cabins

Staterooms aboard Star Clipper are decorated in an appropriately nautical theme featuring a palette of blue, gold and red. The ship sleeps 170 passengers in immaculately maintained cabins designed for comfort and efficiency. Category 6 cabins, located on the interior of the Commodore deck, are equipped with upper and lower berths and a bathroom with shower.

Amenities

- Wi-Fi (fees apply)
- Air conditioning
- En-suite bathroom
- Direct-dial telephone
- Hair dryer
- Personal safe

Dining

Dining aboard the Star Clipper is delightfully relaxed – no assigned meal times here. Instead, this cruising style offers an independent approach, so you can eat whatever and whenever you want. For early risers, continental breakfast is available daily from 6 to 10:30am in the piano bar, featuring tasty options like toasted baguettes and fresh pastries. Later, a heartier breakfast is served from 8 to 10am in the dining room, where you can order up made-to-order omelets and other delectable specials. At lunchtime, enjoy a generous gourmet buffet from noon to 2pm.

To tide you over between lunch and dinner, head to the Tropical Bar for an afternoon snack from 5 to 6pm. Then, from 7:30 to 10:00pm, the chef and dining staff will present an exceptional dinner menu, served in the main dining room. But as always, the atmosphere is casual, with no dress code or assigned seating. Night owls will also love the midnight snack served in the piano bar.

Northern-Phuket itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, home to coconut groves, rubber plantations and beautiful beaches. Take in the stunning blue of the Andaman Sea and the green of the hills, as you wander on the soft sands. Hit Patong to shop, dine and drink, before the ship leaves for the Surin Islands.

Day 2: Reach beautiful Koh Surin, part of a national marine park.

Day 3: North of Phuket are the nine Similan Islands, only accessible by sea. Stop here today, to swim in the waters beloved by divers for their diverse sea life.

Day 4: Hin Daeng and Koh Rok Nok are both neighbored by more waters that are positively perfect for snorkeling and diving, thanks to their biodiversity.

Day 5: Cross the Thailand-Malaysia border to the beaches of Langkawi, which also holds a lush UNESCO geoforest.

Day 6: Explore lesser-known Koh Kradan, one of the Trang Islands, which are still fairly unfrequented by tourists.

Day 7: Gape at the dramatic sea mountains of Phang Nga Bay, and experience its own sandy coast. Later, sun on the white-silica sands of a shoreline of the Ko Hong Archipelago, in the shadow of monolithic rocks.

Day 8: Return to Phuket for disembarkation and your flight home.

Southern-Phuket itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, home to coconut groves, rubber plantations and beautiful beaches. Take in the stunning blue of the Andaman Sea and the green of the hills, as you wander on the soft sands. Hit Patong to shop, dine and drink, before the ship leaves for the Surin Islands.

Day 2: Head to the 61 southernmost islands of western Thailand: those of the Butang group, part of Ko Tarutao National Park. The only people who live here are the Park officers, so it goes without saying that there are few other tourists on the gorgeous beaches and coves. You’ll spend today on Koh Butang.

Day 3: It’s off to Penang, known as one of Malaysia’s culinary capitals, with street food considered the nation’s best. You’ll also find temples, shops and unusual museums.

Day 4: Return to the Butang islands, this time to Ko Adang.

Day 5: Koh Rok Nok is neighbored by waters that are positively perfect for snorkeling and diving, thanks to their biodiversity – borrow some goggles and flippers, and jump in.

Day 6: Gape at the dramatic sea mountains of Phang Nga Bay, and experience its own sandy coast. Later, sun on the white-silica sands of a shoreline of the Ko Hong Archipelago, in the shadow of monolithic rocks.

Day 7: Discover the Similan Islands, only accessible by sea.

Day 8: Return to Phuket’s Patong Bay for disembarkation and your flight home.
