A journey from Thailand to Malaysia to Singapore on a four-masted ship, with meals and an on-board credit

You’ve heard about cruises between the Caribbean and the Greek islands – how about one among the islands of southeast Asia? Sail from Thailand to Malaysia to Singapore, on a stately ship showcasing the elegance and romance of the legendary era of sailing vessels. Aboard the stunning Star Clipper, you’ll have access to a piano bar, the Tropical Bar and an immaculately maintained stateroom, but the real highlight of your journey will be the time you spend off the vessel, experiencing the nature and culture of a real-life heaven on earth.

Begin in Phuket, where landscapes of rubber plantations and coconut groves give way to sandy beaches and the brilliant Andaman Sea. Proceed to the Similan Islands and then to Phang Nga and Ko Hong Bays, both known for monolithic rock formations, rising from the vivid waters. After one more Thai port of call – the islands of the Butang Group, considered a best-kept secret – comes your Malaysia leg, and you’ll spend two full days exploring ancient cities and admiring dramatic architecture, both old and brand-new. Finally, cross into your third and final country, and toast your fabulous sailing with a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Long Bar.

Flights or other means of travel both to the ship before the cruise begins, and from the ship once the cruise is over, are not included and are the traveler's responsibility.

Ship

The four-masted Star Clipper is unlike any ordinary cruise ship. This ship adopts an eye-catching aesthetic – with the addition of up-to-date amenities, of course – for a truly unique sailing experience.

Staterooms

Staterooms aboard the Star Clipper are decorated in an appropriately nautical theme featuring a palette of blue, gold and red. The ship sleeps 170 passengers in immaculately maintained cabins designed for comfort and efficiency, and on your voyage, you’ll have the choice of Category 1, 2, 5 or 6 accommodations.

Category 6 and 5 staterooms are located on the Commodore deck. The former, an interior abode, is equipped with upper and lower berths and a bathroom with shower, while the latter is an inside/outside accommodation offering two lower beds and a double bed, or triple berths, and a marble bathroom. Category 2 staterooms are found on the Clipper deck; these spacious outside staterooms also offer two lower beds and a double bed, or triple berths, and a marble bathroom. The deluxe Category 1 abodes occupy a prime position on the Main deck. These outside cabins have two lower beds which convert to a double, plus a minibar, cabin doors that open onto the deck and a luxe marble bathroom with a whirlpool tub.

Dining

Dining aboard the Star Clipper is delightfully relaxed – no assigned meal times here. Instead, this cruising style offers an independent approach, so you can eat whatever and whenever you want. For early risers, continental breakfast is available daily from 6 to 10:30am in the piano bar, featuring tasty options like toasted baguettes and fresh pastries. Later, a heartier breakfast is served from 8 to 10am in the dining room, where you can order up made-to-order omelets and other delectable specials. At lunchtime, enjoy a generous gourmet buffet from noon to 2pm.

To tide you over between lunch and dinner, head to the Tropical Bar for an afternoon snack from 5 to 6pm. Then, from 7:30 to 10:00pm, the chef and dining staff will present an exceptional dinner menu, served in the main dining room. But as always, the atmosphere is casual, with no dress code or assigned seating. Night owls will also love the midnight snack served in the piano bar.

Details

Flights or other means of travel both to the ship before the cruise begins, and from the ship once the cruise is over, are not included and are the traveler's responsibility.

Itinerary

April 29: Welcome to Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, home to coconut groves, rubber plantations and beautiful beaches. Take in the stunning blue of the Andaman Sea and the green of the hills, as you wander on the soft sands. Hit Patong to shop, dine and drink, before the ship leaves for the Similan Islands.

April 30: North of Phuket are the nine Similan Islands, only accessible by sea. Stop here today, to swim in the waters beloved by divers for their diverse sea life.

May 1: Gape at the dramatic sea mountains of Phang Nga Bay, and experience its own sandy coast. Later, sun on the white-silica shoreline of the Ko Hong Archipelago, in the shadow of monolithic rocks.

May 2: Head to the 61 southernmost islands of western Thailand: the Butang group, part of Ko Tarutao National Park. The only people who live here are the Park officers, so it goes without saying that there are few other tourists on the gorgeous beaches and coves.

May 3: Enter Malaysia, en route to Penang, “the Pearl of the Orient.” Gaze up at the Komtar skyscraper and the massive bridge to this Malaysian state (one of the world’s longest), and take in Kek Lok Si Buddhist temple’s design.

May 4: Spend the day at sea, hanging out in the piano bar or the Tropical Bar. Look out at the sea, while traversing the waters around these isles, as 16 sails on four masts take you to your next destination.

May 5: Stop at Malacca, ruled by the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British through its history and long known as the capital of the Asian-spice trade. Behold opulent Peranakan colonial-style mansions, housing thousands of Chinese antiques.

May 6: Arrive at your third and last country: Singapore. Stare up at more skyscrapers, sip a Singapore Sling at Raffles’ Long Bar, see the homes of Emerald Hill, smell the roses at the Victorian botanic garden, and play a game of cricket. Pick up a keepsake of your cruise at Orchard Road.
